Powertel and Paratus activated a new fibre route into Zimbabwe on Sunday. By Monday evening, a fault on a single 330kV transmission line had collapsed the entire national grid — and with it, every digital service that fibre was meant to serve.
That timing is almost too neat. It captures the core problem: you can pour money into connectivity infrastructure, but if one transmission fault can silence the whole country, the digital economy sits on sand.
No amount of fibre upgrades changes that until Zimbabwe's electricity backbone stops being one bad fault away from total darkness.
