GoldBod's Real Costs Exceed Reported Losses as Ghana Eyes Policy Reversal
Economist Godfred Bokpin argues that GoldBod's actual costs to Ghana significantly exceed the losses reported by the Bank of Ghana, and warns the programme may be unsustainable, with the government reportedly planning a major reduction. The critique adds a fiscal risk dimension to the gold trading body that also separately confirmed it had reduced gold smuggling and retained foreign exchange, while its mandatory XRF purity testing standard takes effect September 1.
