CreditChek Acquires Uganda's Algosys in Nigerian Fintech's East Africa Push
Nigerian fintech CreditChek has acquired Ugandan firm Algosys, marking the company's first cross-border acquisition and a direct entry into the East African lending infrastructure market. The deal extends a maturing expansion playbook among Nigerian fintech operators looking beyond their home market.
CreditChek: Nigeria's credit infrastructure is going where the data isn't
CreditChek's real business is filling a gap: lenders across Africa can't price risk properly because borrower data is thin, scattered, or missing entirely. In Nigeria, CreditChek has already processed over $60 million in credit applications by pulling that data together into one place.
Algosys gives them something more valuable than a foothold — it gives them 22 live financial institutions already plugged into Uganda's lending system, including the microfinance lenders and SACCOs that serve exactly the borrowers most underserved by formal credit.
That's a smarter entry than building from scratch. And it's a reminder that the East African acquisition race isn't only a big-bank story — the infrastructure layer underneath those banks is being quietly consolidated too.
