Orange in Talks to Acquire Telecel Ghana in West Africa Push
French telecoms group Orange is reportedly in talks to acquire Telecel Ghana, a move that would mark its first significant entry into English-speaking West Africa. The potential deal is being described as market-reshaping for Ghana's telecoms landscape.
Orange in Ghana: the load-bearing wall just got a buyer
Telecel was always the fragile piece in Ghana's 5G story — the smaller, part state-owned challenger that the whole competitive structure depended on to keep MTN honest.
Orange arriving changes that picture entirely. A group with 180 million mobile customers and genuine appetite for Africa doesn't inherit a turnaround project; it inherits a network that's already grown from 5,000 to 9,000 sites, returned to profit, and is weeks from a 5G launch.
The operator Ghana's regulator needed to stay standing just found a much stronger set of hands to stand in.
