WAEMU Payment Systems Handle Record 1,336 Trillion FCFA in 2025

West Africa's UEMOA monetary union recorded 1,336 trillion FCFA transiting through its payment systems in 2025, a new all-time high that confirms the scale of digital payments infrastructure in the region. The BCEAO is separately developing an evolution framework for cross-border payments across ECOWAS that would extend beyond the current eight-country UEMOA zone.
