Supascale launches Africa's first GPU cloud marketplace in South Africa

South African company Supascale has launched what it describes as Africa's first GPU cloud marketplace, creating a new infrastructure layer for affordable AI compute access across the continent. The marketplace is positioned to lower the cost and complexity of accessing GPU resources for African AI developers and startups.
Supascale: your laptop could be Africa's AI infrastructure
The hard constraint for African AI developers has never been ideas — it's been the cost of raw computing power, which typically means renting from Amazon or Google at prices that make serious experimentation unaffordable.
Supascale's answer is to pool idle GPUs — the chips that run AI workloads — sitting unused in laptops, PCs and empty data centre racks across the region, then sell access to that collective power at lower cost.
That's a genuinely different model. If it works at scale, African developers stop paying a premium to hyperscalers based abroad, and ordinary GPU owners earn something from hardware that otherwise sits dark. That's the floor-raising move the ecosystem actually needs.
