Shoprite's Sixty60 Reaches $1.6 Billion Scale, Drives Over a Third of Group Growth
Shoprite's rapid-delivery platform Sixty60 has been valued at $1.6 billion in digital commerce terms and now accounts for more than a third of the retail group's overall growth. The figures position Sixty60 as a landmark proof point for quick commerce at African scale.
Sixty60: the app that's carrying a supermarket giant on its back
Shoprite's South African stores added R15.2 billion in sales last year across nearly 2,800 outlets. Sixty60 — a single delivery app — added R6.6 billion on its own.
That's close to half the growth in the entire South African supermarket business, from one product, built by one incumbent moving fast.
For anyone building in African e-commerce, this is the number that should end the debate about whether quick commerce can work at scale on this continent. It already does — and a legacy retailer got there first.
