US developer platform Vercel has acquired Egypt's Stakpak, marking its second African acquisition within a single month. The deal validates African developer-tools startups as credible targets for high-profile Silicon Valley acquirers.

Stakpak raised $500,000, kept its engineers in Cairo, and got acquired by a $9.3 billion company. That is a real outcome on a genuinely small budget.
But the detail worth sitting with is that founder George Fahmy relocated to San Francisco while building it — the same pattern as Bereket Engida before him. Vercel found both founders in the diaspora, not on the continent.
The technology was African-built. The founder was Africa-adjacent. Those are different things, and the gap between them is where the harder question lives.
