Africa H1 2026 Startup Funding Crosses $1.4 Billion, With $500 Million in June Alone
Africa's startup ecosystem raised $1.4 billion in the first half of 2026, with June accounting for $500 million of that total, according to a new benchmark funding report. The data provides the most comprehensive H1 snapshot available for investors and founders tracking capital flows across the continent.
Africa Funding: the same total, half the doors
The headline number — $1.4 billion raised in six months — looks like stability returning. But the same money went to 42% fewer deals than last year.
Roughly half of all H1 funding flowed to just seven companies. The median round has nearly halved. Nigeria's average deal sat at $1.6 million; Kenya's at $6.9 million.
For most founders, the market didn't stabilise — it narrowed. The ceiling held; the floor rose sharply. That's not a recovery. That's consolidation wearing recovery's clothes.
