Ghana Parliament Rejects US Health Data Compact on Sovereignty Grounds

Ghana's cabinet and Parliament have rejected a US health compact that would have involved sharing Ghanaian medical records, with legislators and President Mahama both emphasising data sovereignty as the basis for the decision. Parliamentarians also asserted that regulatory independence over foreign pharmaceutical approvals must be maintained alongside any external health partnership.
