Paymob Raises $35 Million Pre-Series C as Egyptian Fintech Payments Infrastructure Deepens
Egyptian fintech startup Paymob has closed a $35 million pre-Series C funding round, in what is described as a significant capital raise for payments infrastructure serving the MENA region. The raise is being read as a positive signal for Egypt's broader fintech ecosystem.
Paymob: one licence did all of this
Twenty thousand merchants onboarded across the Gulf in roughly eight months — that's the number sitting behind this raise.
All of it flows from a single UAE central bank licence Paymob picked up in January 2025. Before that, it couldn't do direct merchant acquisition in the Gulf at all. After it, GCC revenue grew fast enough that it now accounts for nearly half the company's total.
The $35 million follows the proof, it didn't create it. That's the model worth watching: get the right regulatory foothold in one Gulf market, and the regional expansion writes itself.
