MNT-Halan Plans 20% Stake Sale in Cairo IPO as Loan Book Approaches $1 Billion
Egyptian fintech unicorn MNT-Halan is planning a Cairo IPO targeting a 20 percent public float, with its loan book approaching $1 billion. The planned listing follows an $82 million debt raise closed on 3 October and is being described as a landmark capital-markets moment for Egyptian fintech.
Cairo IPO: Egypt's stock market is the one being tested here
MNT-Halan arrives at Cairo's exchange with a loan book approaching $1 billion and 1.9 million active borrowers — this isn't a startup asking the market to believe in a vision.
The real question is whether Cairo's exchange can hold the weight. Egypt's IPO market has been effectively dormant for three years; the United Bank sale earlier this year was the first sign of life. A high-growth fintech with genuine scale is a different test entirely.
If public investors show up at a price that reflects what the business actually is, Cairo becomes a credible home for African tech listings. If the market fumbles it, founders across the continent get one more reason to look elsewhere.
