MTN Ghana Secures $202M 5G Spectrum Licence, Sharpening Duopoly With Telecel
Ghana 5G: now Telecel has to actually build
MTN paying $202 million was never really in doubt — the company has the cash, the existing spectrum, and a $1.1 billion investment pledge already in motion.
The harder question is always Telecel. Smaller, part state-owned, promising a December rollout on a 2.3 GHz band acquired for an undisclosed fee. December is ten weeks away.
If Telecel slips, Ghana's 'two independent networks' story quietly reverts to one dominant operator with a regulatory blessing. That's the only number worth watching now.
