Tinubu Signs Executive Order Unifying Nigeria's Crypto Regulation
President Tinubu has signed an executive order establishing a coordinated regulatory framework for cryptocurrency and virtual assets in Nigeria, formalising the CBN-led council structure announced earlier this week. The order represents the most significant crypto policy action in Africa's largest digital-asset market to date.
Nigeria Crypto: the signature is the easy part
The executive order is real. But the deadline it set — five agencies producing a unified framework in 30 days — has now passed.
What Tinubu signed formalises a structure. Whether that structure actually resolves the CBN-SEC tension, or simply names it as someone else's problem to sort out, is still an open question.
Watch for the framework, not the order.
