MNT-Halan's Cairo Stock Exchange IPO countdown advances as Egypt's exchange bets on the listing to draw foreign capital
Egypt's Cairo Stock Exchange is banking on MNT-Halan's forthcoming IPO, which the company began a six-month countdown toward on September 16 at a reported $1.4 billion valuation, to pull foreign capital back into its equity market. The listing is being widely described as Egypt's most significant fintech public-market event to date and a regional benchmark for startup exits.
MNT-Halan IPO: Cairo is betting its credibility, not just listing a company
OPay went to New York. PalmPay is heading to Hong Kong. Airtel Money chose London. MNT-Halan chose Cairo — and now the Cairo Stock Exchange is leaning on that choice to prove its public markets can compete for serious tech capital.
That's a lot of weight for one listing to carry.
The six-month conditional window, the $1.4 billion reported valuation, the National Bank of Egypt buying in just before the filing — all of it means nothing if foreign investors don't actually show up with money. And the EGX hasn't had a tech listing of this scale before.
MNT-Halan choosing home is the right bet for the ecosystem. Whether the exchange is ready to honour it is the question Cairo hasn't answered yet.
