Dangote Refinery IPO Opens September 14 in Nigeria's Largest-Ever Listing
Dangote Refinery's ₦2.15 trillion IPO opens on September 14, priced at ₦525 per share, in what is widely described as Nigeria's largest-ever public listing and a candidate for Africa's largest-ever capital raise. Independent analysis urging investor caution has been published alongside subscription guidance, as the Nigerian Exchange separately postponed the launch of a new shares pricing methodology amid the T+1 transition and IPO preparation.
Dangote IPO: the ₦5,250 ticket was the pitch — now watch who actually showed up
The subscription guide lists fintechs, stockbrokers, POS terminals, BVN-linked flows. The infrastructure for retail participation is genuinely there.
But infrastructure isn't demand. The NGX just postponed a pricing reform specifically because too many big changes are landing at once — T+1 settlement, index rebalancing, foreign capital repositioning. That's the professional market struggling to keep up.
If seasoned operators are asking for breathing room, the question is whether the driver and the domestic worker — the retail investor this IPO was explicitly pitched at — quietly sat it out while institutions filled the book.
The subscription data, when it closes on 13 October, will answer whether this was a people's IPO or a professional one wearing retail clothes.
