Dangote Refinery IPO Set to Open at N525/Share, Targeting $1.5 Billion Raise
Dangote Refinery is set to open its IPO within days, pricing shares at N525 each and targeting approximately $1.5 billion in proceeds. If completed at that size, the offering would rank as Africa's largest-ever public capital raise, marking a landmark moment for Nigeria's capital markets and energy sector.
Dangote IPO: the $5 billion became $1.5 billion — and that's still the story
Three months ago, the headline number was a $5 billion IPO. Today it's $1.5 billion at N525 a share — less than a third of that original figure.
That's not a footnote. For anyone watching whether Nigeria's capital markets can handle a landmark listing, the scale of the revision is the whole question.
The refinery's fundamentals are genuinely striking — 43.94% sector growth in Q2, Nigerian refined fuel now flowing to Europe at volumes that didn't exist three years ago. The asset is real. But a target that's shrunk this sharply, after a SEC-ordered halt to marketing and a private placement that had to close first, suggests the investor appetite on offer didn't match the ambition on the stage.
Africa's largest-ever public raise is still worth celebrating — if it closes. But the number it closes at will say more about the depth of Nigeria's capital markets than any headline ever could.
