Dangote Refinery IPO Gets SEC Green Light, Opens Within Days at N525/Share
Nigeria's Securities and Exchange Commission has approved Dangote Refinery's N2.15 trillion IPO, priced at N525 per share and targeting approximately $1.6 billion in proceeds — a listing analysts describe as Africa's largest-ever public capital raise. Dangote has confirmed the offering will open within days, with a September 14 debut, and the group has added $3.3 million ahead of the listing.
Dangote IPO: the approval is done — now comes the harder question
SEC approval clears the final procedural gate. The listing opens September 14 at N525 a share.
What we still don't know is who actually buys it.
The prior private placement already showed that international underwriters, not domestic retail investors, carried most of the weight. A $1.5 billion public raise on an exchange whose entire market sat under $70 billion a month ago is genuinely uncharted territory for Nigeria. The greenshoe option — an extra 15 percent on offer if demand runs hot — is a confidence signal, but it only gets triggered if the base offer fills first.
The approval is the easy part. Subscription levels when the book closes will be the real verdict on how deep Nigeria's capital markets actually are.
